How To Get A Blue Axolotl
As of Minecraft version 1.17.1, the only way you can get a Blue Axolotl without using commands is by breeding one.
There are five different colors of Axolotl: pink, brown, gold, cyan, and blue. The baby Axolotl will usually take after one of its parents in colour, but there is a 1 in 1,200 chance that it will instead become a rare Blue Axolotl.
The colour has no effect on the creature itself. All Axolotl are functionally and behaviourally identical even the ultra-rare blue variant has nothing which sets it apart from the other types besides its hue.
Of course, there are probably already dozens of texture packs which will change Axolotl colours to whatever the author likes.
Exciting Features Of The 118 Update
Lush caves and dripstone caves are the two new cave biomes that will make their way to the game with the 1.18 update. They are the most lively caves in all of Minecraft. Lush caves have glow berries naturally grown in them that act as a light source and can be harvested as well.
Dripstone caves have a lot of dripstones and pointed dripstone blocks that grow as stalagmites and stalactites. They are scary places where players will find many hostile mobs.
The Warden Mob Has Been Delayed
The Warden was originally announced as part of the Caves & Cliffs update, planned to come in the 1.18 version. As of this year’s Minecraft live, Mojang announced that the Warden and the Deep Dark biome it hails from are both being pushed back to the 1.19 Wild Update.
As they are found so deep underground, Wardens are blind, responding to vibrations and movement instead of light. If you get near one, the area will dim, regardless of any light source used. You’ll know if one is aware of your presence as the ‘horns’ on its head will glow and rattle.
They’re pretty scary, having tons of health and dealing massive damage. They’re big, too, standing taller than an Iron Golem. They’ll also chase after you if you don’t crouch to sneak past them. Luckily they can be tricked by throwing objects like eggs or snowballs.

Minecraft Caves And Cliffs Part 2 Details
World generation is going to be one of the biggest aspects to how Minecraft 1.18 will differ from previous releases. Mountains and caves are going to now be gigantic due to the increase in the height of the sky and the bottom of the world. This also means that the distribution of ore will be very different.
The Ore Distribution for 1.18 has been finalized and is displayed in the image provided officially by the developers at Minecraft:
Obtaining diamond will be a lot different in this update, so be sure to check out our how to get Diamond in Minecraft 1.18 guide. Iron is another resource that you will need to adapt your strategy with, so check out our how to get iron for information on that.

Blocks And Items Coming In Minecraft 118
The first half of the Caves & Cliffs update came with lots of new blocks and items, but update 1.18 is much more focused on those big biome and world generation changes. On the block and items side, Ore Veins are the headline new change.
Iron and copper ore veins are snake-like ore formations that should yield a lot of valuable ore when found. At Y=0 and above, ore veins contain copper ore and granite. Below Y=0, the ore vein will give you iron ore and tuff.

Other Major Changes In Minecraft 118 Caves & Cliffs Part 2 Update
The biomes are the biggest feature that most players are excited about in the new update. But thats not all. Lets go over each of the major new features that Minecraft 1.18 has to offer.
Java and Bedrock Compatibility
If you are someone like me who isnt a fan of having two separate Minecraft editions, this update is perfect for you. One major way the 1.18 update brings Java and Bedrock Minecraft closer is with world generation. Most Minecraft 1.18 seeds generate worlds that look very similar in both editions of the game. The worlds still wont be exactly the same, but they wouldnt feel like two separate seeds either. An example of this improved compatibility between the Java and Bedrock editions can be seen below:
Is it time to play Spot the Difference? Nope! These Java and Bedrocks seeds are so similar that even the sharpest eyes would have trouble winning this game!
Minecraft 117 Update Release Date
Minecraft update 1.17 is currently scheduled to release sometime in mid-2021. The Caves and Cliffs update will release simultaneously on both the Java and Bedrock versions of the game, but Java players can test out the new features early by playing the latest snapshot version.
There is no exact release date at the moment for the Caves and Cliffs update, but the Nether update was released last June, so theres a good chance that 1.17 will be released sometime this summer.

Can You Play It Early
Generally, players on Minecraft Java can test it out and report any issues they come across. They work as a community-wide QA tester.
It is recommended to not do this with worlds you care about greatly as there’s always a small chance it could mess with it. If you really want to play an old world, make sure you have a backup somewhere.
This being said, the update is out very soon so it’s likely not worth your time to get in there now.

New World Generation And Blending
And that’s the core of this update. Thanks in part to the increased world depth, much more diverse world generation is possible, and Mojang has put a ton of work into letting Minecraft generate bigger, more interesting worlds with more natural changes in elevation.
This update is called Caves and Cliffs, and that’s for a good reason. The best Minecraft did before when it came to mountains was something more like a big hill. The mountains you can find now have proper peaks, and cliffsides can have truly dizzying drops. The way biomes and terrain tie together has changed as well, making for more interesting combinations of the two. A jungle mountain? Yes, please. I loved Jumanji.
Similarly, caves have always been integral to Minecraft, but now they’re as much fun to look at as they are to mine–and a lot easier to mine as well. This is truly a game-changing update that makes the world much easier and more fun to explore while also changing how we can approach both building and mining. To help make this new generation work, the game now features improved biome blending, letting borders between different biome chunks blend more seamlessly.
What Does The Caves And Cliffs Update Add To Minecraft
Minecraft version 1.17 will add new mobs and blocks to the game, and it will overhaul Minecrafts cave generation system to create larger and more diverse underground areas. The in-game height limit will be expanded by 64 blocks upwards and downwards, so caves will run deeper than ever before.
Currently, Minecraft caves are simple and typically feature nothing more than small caverns or narrow passageways. With version 1.17, several new cave types will be added to the game to make underground exploration much more engaging and rewarding. Large aquifers, gigantic caverns with stalagmites, and long winding spaghetti caves are just a few new additions to Minecrafts cave generation formula.
Mining will also become a bit more complex with the Caves and Cliffs update. Minecraft 1.17 increases the depth and height for every world, so there is much more to explore underground. To compensate for the increased depth, certain ores will be more common at certain depth levels to allow for more strategic mining. You may be able to find iron more commonly close to the surface, while gold is plentiful near the diamond layers deep underground.
Most ores have also been retextured for accessibility reasons, so your favorite Minecraft metals will look a bit different when you find them in the Caves and Cliffs update. New ores like copper and amethyst can also be found in the new caves, so even the most experienced Minecraft players have a lot to look forward to.

Dripstone Caves And The Deep Dark Biome
Dripstone Caves are now in Minecraft as of the 21w37a snapshot. Though the stalagmites and stalactites did make it into 1.17, theyre also what will make the Dripstone Caves stand out. Destroying the blocks at the top of the stalactites will drop the rest from above. On the other hand, Stalagmites act like spikes and can hurt friends and foes alike. Stalactites also drip water, so you can use a bucket to collect the water. This gives you a renewable source of water.
You can combine multiple stalagmites and stalactites to make them as long as you can imagine. Stalactites will not only drip water, but they can also drip lava, which you can collect in a cauldron placed below it, just in case you need it for later. Its also worth noting that the dripstone will break if you throw a trident at a pointed dripstone. You can also find more copper ore here than in normal caves.
