That said, Minecraft: Story ModeSeason Two has a leg up on its predecessor in that it’s paced better right off the start. Plus, the story kicks into high gear within the first 15 minutes, sending Jesse off on an adventure full of twists and turns that just keep coming. A Good Game For Existing Fans

Many players have commented that the story and gameplay feel weak compared to season one of the franchise, which may be another turn off for people who are new to the franchise. The continuation of the story will appeal to existing players but will seem like more of an obstacle to newbies.

On the other hand, the casual nature of the game and the ease of the controls make it very easy to get into, and the story is not so complex that a person coming into season two would be totally lost.

    What Parents Need To Know

Parents need to know that Minecraft: Story Mode — Season Two is a narrative-driven adventure set in the world of Minecraft. Play centers on choosing responses in dialogue, not collecting minerals and crafting items. Combat is infrequent, mild, and cartoonish. Battles see human characters using swords against blocky monsters, but they involve no blood or gore and typically end with enemies disappearing in puffs of smoke. The game’s hero, Jesse, can be customized in terms of gender and skin tone. He is clearly out to do good, helping friends and protecting civilians, but the player’s choices in dialogue can alter the tone of responses, making Jesse seem sensitive or uncaring, empathetic or reactionary, playful or a bit mean.

Early adventure games often had and some, including and some of its sequels, assigned the player a rank, a text description based on their score. High scores provide the player with a secondary goal, and serve as an indicator of progression. While high scores are now less common, external reward systems, such as ‘s Achievements, perform a similar role.

The primary failure condition in adventure games, inherited from more action-oriented games, is player death. Without the clearly identified enemies of other genres, its inclusion in adventure games is controversial, and many developers now either avoid it or take extra steps to foreshadow death. Some early adventure games trapped the players in without ending the game. ‘s text adventure has been criticized for a scenario where failing to pick up a pile of junk mail at the beginning of the game prevented the player, much later, from completing the game. The adventure games developed by LucasArts purposely avoided creating a dead-end situation for the player due to the negative reactions to such situations.
