Again we return to the load to show you a new game that for a limited time is available for download completely free of charge. This time we are talking about Minecraft: Store Mode, a game that has a regular price of 4,99 euros, and that has been developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with the creators of Minecraft. Minecraft: Story Mode arrived on the App Store a little over a year ago and consisted of five episodes that we had to buy independently. But currently the developer has expanded that number to eight. Each of the additional episodes is available for download through in-app purchases for 4,99 euros, although we can find packs of several episodes to save us a few euros.

The limited-time download of Minecraft: Story Mode offers us the first episode of this game for free, so it is a good way to test if this game is really as addictive and good as they claim. In Micrecraft: Story Edition we can play as a man or as the heroine Jesse and we will have to embark on a dangerous adventure to the other side of the Overworld, through the Nether to search for the Order of the Stone and try to save the world.

Minecraft: Story Mode Now Available On Ios

Telltale Games and Microsoft-owned Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, have teamed up on a brand new, narrative-driven game set in the Minecraft universe. Titled Minecraft: Story Mode, the game launched today in the App Store as a .

Minecraft: Story Mode is framed as a full-blown adventure game. Its not a Minecraft add-on nor does it require the original Minecraft game. Like other Telltale Games releases, Minecraft: Story Mode is a multi-part episodic series.

Closure Of Telltale Games

In November 2018, Telltale Games began the process of closing down the studio due to financial issues. Most of its games started to become delisted from digital storefronts, including Minecraft: Story Mode. According to GOG.com, they had to pull the title due to “expiring licensing rights”. The Minecraft team stated that even for those that had purchased the titles before their delisting, the episodes would no longer be downloadable after June 2019. Because the Xbox Live Marketplace does not allow for removing games from sale while at the same time allowing existing owners to download the game, each episode of the game’s Xbox 360 version was repriced to $100 in the few weeks ahead of the delisting to deter users from purchasing them.

Minecraft: Story Mode is a standalone piece in the Minecraft series that actually follows a storyline with lots of characters, twists, and turns. The game is based on the world of Minecraft, and it will see players through all of the most famous elements of the game, like the Overworld, the End, and the Nether.

This game includes numerous episodes, and the first episode is entirely free. Other episodes are unlocked by buying the full game, which unlocks up to episode five, and episodes six, seven, and eight can be purchased individually in the app or by purchasing an Adventure Pass. The Adventure Pass allows players to access all the episodes.

The main game includes only the first five episodes, but that is more than enough for most players. You’ll start off by selecting the gender of your character, but the name ‘Jesse’ is the default name for both genders, so it doesn’t really matter beyond the aesthetic of the character. The game revolves around The Order of the Stone, a mythical group of heroes who were responsible for slaying the Ender Dragon.

The voice acting in this title is something that is worth mentioning. There are a number of famous actors who supplied voices for certain characters, including Patton Oswald, Ashley Johnson, Brian Posehn, Dave Fennoy, Scott Porter, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Paul Reubens, and Billy West. Their talent is what truly makes this game a standout piece of entertainment.

Pros

An Interesting Take On The Genre

Minecraft Story mode Free in App Store iOS 10/9

Released by Telltale Games prior to their closure in 2018, Minecraft: Story Mode was built in the same episodic format as most Telltale products. It followed the story of a character made by the player, called Jesse, who travelled with friends to follow the well-trodden path of becoming heroes to save the world from the Wither Storm.

The rest of the story tends to revolve around adventure, finding treasure, and meeting new enemies and friends as the story progresses.

It plays like you might expect moving from area to area, combing the scene for clues and items, and then dealing with action scenes and interactions with the many other characters you might meet. First released in 2015, it was a refreshing use of the Minecraft IP to offer something that was more than a DIY builder.

A Tell Perhaps Not Worth Telling After A While

Like most story-based games from Telltale Games, the idea starts off fresh and exciting. Towards the end of the first season of releases and absolutely into the second season, though, things began to tale off. Users can quickly spot the plotline unfolding in front of them, and there was nothing like the same creativity or invention in the writing, set pieces, or events that would take place.

Most of the writing becomes paint-by-numbers humour and loses much of the charm and freshness that made the first few episodes so good. Indeed, ratings for the first season often jumped from impressive to mediocre, and the second season was also seen as a poor use of the IP. Though the ideas were often quite fresh, and the last couple episodes were actually some of the most well-loved, it lacked the longevity that came with some of the other Telltale games, such as Tales From The Borderlands.

Overall, though, its a fun enough jaunt through a world built in the image of Minecraft.

Much like other spin-offs like Minecraft Dungeon, though, it was perhaps a little too light when it came to depth, replayability, and general fun for the gamer. With the stories quickly fading into boring subplots, there wasnt the ability for Minecraft Story Mode to stand on its own two feet after a while.

Pros:

  • A fun concept, building on the Minecraft IP
  • Smart use of worldbuilding with kid-friendly stories

Cons:

  • Operating systems: Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 7/2000/Vista/WinXP

Forget The Minecraft You Knew

Minecraft: Story Mode is an episodic adventure. This means that when the game is released you will get a single episode lasting around two or three hours, with four further installments then being released at regular intervals to complete the story totaling five episodes and around 10 hours of gameplay.

In Story Mode you create your own Minecraft character called Jesse – and embark on a dangerous adventure that will take you beyond The End. Together with your gang of blocky cohorts, you will relive the legendary Order of the Stone. With your teams help, you will reform this group of heroes with the Warrior, the Redstone Engineer, the Architect and the Rogue.
