Minecraft Server That Lets You Make Your Own Server

Choosing Your Server Version

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN MINECRAFT SMP SERVER! (2021)

Minecraft is perhaps the greatest sandbox game of all time. What this refers to as there are an unlimited number of modifications that can be made to the game itself along with the ability to create whatever you would like in the game. When you are creating a Minecraft server you can predetermine what the server will be able to do by choosing the type of server that you would like to create.

The best Minecraft servers are mostly based on Spigot and plugins since they are much easier for players to connect to, but there are many other popular types. When you start the main server executable all of the required server files will be created and you will be able to edit this after the first boot. There are a few different server versions which you can learn more about below before making your selection.

Vanilla

There are many different kinds of servers to play in Minecraft. The default version of Minecraft comes from Mojang themselves and is also known as Vanilla. As of the time of writing this article the latest version is 1.8.1. This vanilla Minecraft is the foundation for all of the other server versions. Typically enhanced servers are older server versions which have been heavily modified to increase performance and expand functionality. This is a great way to get started with hosting your Minecraft server as there are not many additional steps to setting up this type of server. It is easy to get your very own server up and running on this type.

Running A Minecraft Server From Home

You dont need a top-of-the-line system to run a Minecraft server a desktop computer is ideal.

While you can run a Minecraft server and play on the same machine, youll need a more powerful system to do it.

And lastly, use a wired ethernet connection for your server instead of wireless. A wired connection is more reliable.

Connecting To Your Server

Your new Minecraft server will now be up and running on the IP which it has been assigned to. If this is on your local computer it will be your IP, whereas if you have set up a Minecraft server hosting account with us we will provide you the IP to use and give out to your friends allowing you to get started quickly and securely. If others are having trouble connecting to a server that you have started on your local machine you might need to set up port forwarding for your network.

Domains vs Subdomains vs IP:PORT vs Dedicated IP

We have a great post on the differences between Subdomains, Domains, IPs and IP:PORT combinations found here. The main differences come down to cost and complexity. We give, for free, subdomains for every server in the form of yourserver.apexminecraft.com. This is in addition to the IP:PORT that comes with every server. The subdomain or domain simply forwards to the number IP to find the server. The dedicated IP will allow you to make something like yourname.com instead of the numbered IP. If all you want is something like mc.yourname.com then there is a free way to do it. It requires setting an A record and an SRV record on your registrar. Simply use the free IP:PORT that we gave you to do this.

How To Join A Friend’s ‘minecraft: Java Edition’ Server Or A Public One

If you want to join a server that a friend has already made, or that you found online – there are thousands of public “Minecraft” servers – you just need the right IP address. Joining a public server is the easiest way to play multiplayer “Minecraft,” but will also require sharing the server with anyone else who knows the server.

In addition, you can’t customize these public servers, since they’re made and maintained by someone else. And they probably won’t support most of the mods you use.

That said, there are so many different servers that there’s a good chance you’ll always be able to find one to suit your needs.

Once you have the IP address of the public server you want, or your friend’s “Minecraft” server:

1. Launch “Java” and select “Multiplayer.”

2. Click “Add Server.”

3. In the “Server Address” box, enter the host server’s address and click “Done.” This might be an IP address, or a URL.

4. Wait for the server to connect, and when it appears in the list, select it and click “Join Server.”

That’s how you connect to a pre-existing server. But if you want to create a server of your own, here’s how to do it.

Alternatively, you can manage/automate the startup and shutdown of the Minecraft server using a script such as the ones listed below:

Port forwarding is used when you have a router and you wish to let users connect to your server through it. If you wish to host your server for local reasons, it is not required that you do so. Keep in mind that port forwarding might cause security risks.

When port forwarding, it varies on how your router will ask you for the information. If you don’t understand on how your router wants you to input the information, try visiting PortForward.com for a tutorial.

Once you have managed to locate your router’s admin page, and find the Port Forwarding page hit add new service or custom service. When you get a page asking to setup the new rule, it should prompt you on what you want to call it. You may name it as you wish, but for simplicity, name it “minecraft“. Then, you want to look for “type”. If “TCP/UDP” or “Both” isn’t an option you will have to create two rules for both protocols. For the ports , enter 25565. If it asks for anything else other than output IP , leave it alone and continue.

To find your computer’s IP address, use the following steps:

Windows

Now it is time to configure and connect.

Which Minecraft Hosting Plan Is For Me

In order to run a larger server smoothly, you need the resources to do it. Hence why were offering five different plans to choose from according to your needs.

For example, if you want to run a server for up to 100 people without running into any hiccups, you can go for our Villager Plan that offers 3 GB of memory thats more than enough to manage a proper Minecraft server for all of your needs and provide your friends with an enjoyable experience.

In general, the more RAM you have for your server, the more people will be able to play at the same time. If there are too many people for a server to handle, you can begin to experience lagging issues that can affect playing the game.

Furthermore, more RAM allows you to install more plugins on your server, which also takes a toll on your server speed.

To top it all off, choosing one of our plans also comes with additional features, such as instant server setup, DDoS protection, automatic off-site backups, and much more. If youll ever get stuck, we have a 24/7 customer support team that will answer any questions you might have.

How To Create A Minecraft Server On Windows Mac Or Linux Systems

Lets start with the basics. Setting up the actual server will take a little technical know-how. You need to understand, at least at a fundamental level, how a server and a network function, and you ought to be comfortable with command lines as well as the hardware youre using.

Some questions people ask include:

Do I need a specific type of computer to run a Minecraft server?

No. You dont need a special computer, but youll likely do better setting it up on a desktop.

Can I run the server and play the game on the same computer?

Sure, with an explanation. Its possible to run the server and play the game on the same machine, but you need to have a pretty powerful system to get the best possible performance.

Can I run a Minecraft server over a wireless connection?

This is not recommended. A wired connection is far more reliable and preferable.

Do I need any specialized hardware?

You could purchase server hardware, but a virtual private server or a dedicated server is a much simpler way to go. You wont have the hassle of maintaining your hardware, and its a scalable solution, in case you need more server power. Also, having a hosted server means there is no risk of exposing your network to the world.

With these points in mind, here are the steps you will take in setting up your Minecraft server, in a broad sense:

  • Install the newest version of Java on your computer.
  • Configure your network and the server.
  • Run the server.
  • Make sure you can access the server.

Installing The Necessary Software Packages And Configure The Firewall

With your server initialized, your first step is to install Java youâll need it to run Minecraft. By default, Ubuntu 18.04 does not provide a recent enough version of Java in order to run the newest releases of Minecraft. Fortunately, there are third-party maintainers who continue to build newer Java packages for older Ubuntu releases, and you can install them by adding their PPA, or Personal Package Archives, to your own list of package sources. You can do that with the following command:

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openjdk-r/ppa
  • Next, update your package sources to reflect this addition:

  • sudoapt update
  • Finally, install the OpenJDK version 17 of Java, specifically the headless JRE. This is a minimal version of Java that removes the support for GUI applications. This makes it ideal for running Java applications on a server:

  • sudoaptinstall openjdk-17-jre-headless
  • You also need to use a software called screen to create detachable server sessions. screen allows you to create a terminal session and detach from it, leaving the process started on it running. This is important because if you were to start your server and then close your terminal, this would kill the session and stop your server. Install screen now:

  • sudoaptinstallscreen
  •
  • sudo ufw allow 25565
  • Now that you have Java installed and your firewall properly configured, you will download the Minecraft server app from the Minecraft website.

Minecraft Server: Own Home Server Or Rent A Server

How to make your own Minecraft Server! 1.15(Free)

If you want to create and run your own Minecraft server, you will first need the appropriate hardware. In theory, a home PC is adequate for this but this also depends on the desired number of players and server setting. For three to five players, for example, the Minecraft team recommends three gigabytes of RAM, 18 gigabytes of hard drive space, and broadband resources of at least 12 MBit for the game. In addition, there are the requirements of the operating system for Windows 10, this would be another one or two gigabytes of RAM and 16 or 32 gigabytes of hard drive space .

These key numbers already make it clear that you cannot run other programs in parallel to the Minecraft server on the respective PC, so it functions exclusively as a host. The purchase of a second PC in addition to your normal device not only takes up the home broadband quota, but also means additional running costs in terms of power consumption. It is probably only an option for very few Minecraft enthusiasts.

What actually is a server? In our article on the term Server we answer this, and many more questions, addressing, among other things, the ambiguous use of the term in computer science!

Rentable server resources are also referred to as Infrastructure-as-a-Service , which is IT infrastructure provided to users by a provider as part of a service.

    Running A Domestic Server

A decent desktop would be more than enough for this purpose but if you want to keep the server running and play the game simultaneously then you would need a bit more of horsepower.

You can use a GoDaddy Virtual Private Server or a dedicated separate server if you do not want to expose your home network to the public.

With these things out of the way. Lets get started with getting the windows users their Minecraft Server:

How To Make Your Minecraft Server Auto

OK. Lets say you own a Minecraft server full of crazy, faithful ops who try to help but end up crashing your Minecraft server. I can solve that so your server will start up in 10 seconds after the crash. Lets start of by editing our start.bat, launch.bat, or the windows batch file you named. Right click the file, click edit, and you’ll see a bunch of jibberish you possibly don’t even understand. Now, highlight that, and copy and paste this code in its place :

    :begin

    java.exe -Xms3072m -Xmx3072m -Dlog4j.configurationFile=log4j2.xml -jar craftbukkit.jar -o true

    timeout 10

    goto begin

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————

Now, start your server, and try to type in ‘stop’ in your cmd prompt. Let the timer count down, and the server will start again! I apologize for not very many pictures, but please leave a like, and possibly join my server at: jointhedoghouse.ddns.net

And there you have it! You are now running your own Minecraft server and you can have all your friends join it as you wish.

There are many things you can do with your own server such as manage game settings, customizing your own white-list, adding your own mods, and allocating however much memory that you have to spare. We suggest starting small before you get too crazy.

Minecraft can quickly eat up resources that many people dont have at home and you may find your computer struggles to handle everything you want it to do. Please also remember to not share your IP address publicly or with anyone you dont know or trust.

Minecraft Hosting: How To Host A Server

Here’s how to setup Minecraft hosting so you can host other players on your very own server

Want to start your own Minecraft hosting? You can set up your own server on Minecraft to invite your online buddies or create a multiplayer experience to share with even more players, but the initial process can take some time to get going. Heres how to set up and host your own Minecraft servers.

Mojang has free of charge server software that you can download to manage your server. You can download the Java Edition server on the Minecraft website. Before you do this, though, youll want to make sure you have the latest version of Java installed this is an important step for security. You can check this by accessing Java through your control panel. If you need to install Java or update the file, .

Once you have both the latest version of Java and have downloaded Mojangs server software, heres what you need to do next to set up Minecraft hosting and get your Minecraft server up and running.

    Write A Startup Script

You dont need a startup script, but its easier to just combine things into a script so you only need to run one command to start up your server. Begin making a new file by opening it with your text editor. If youre not familiar with Linux text editors, use Nano.

    nano start-server.sh

Then, fill in your script to look like this:

    #! /bin/bash/usr/bin/screen-S$1/usr/bin/java-Xmx1024M-Xms1024M-jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Save your script and exit the text editor. Youll also need to make your script executable before you can run it.

    chmod +x start-server.sh
