Minecraft Education Edition For Homeschool

Interested In Using Minecraft In Your Homeschooling

Welcome to Minecraft: Education Edition

Update: Both boys have now been using Minecraft Homeschool for a few years, I still find it a very worthwhile educational programme to subscribe to. Its lots of fun too, a moderated, child-safe server. That doesnt mean there are no conflicts, these are young kids and sometimes there is bullying, bad behaviour and tears, but on the whole, Id far rather them be on this server than any other. We are not Minecraft Homeschool Associates, this a totally unbiased review by a homeschooling mum. Minecraft Homeschool is now known as Game Ed Academy, presumably they had issues with the name. Other courses they have tried include Science Summer Camp, Doctor Who Summer Camp and the Poverty Project

What You Need To Know

Minecraft: Education Edition
  • Minecraft: Education Edition can now integrate with Microsoft Teams.
  • Educators can embed a Flipgrid topic, Forms quiz, or an assessment tool into a Minecraft world.
  • Microsoft also announced Minecraft: Education Edition for Camps and Clubs, which works outside the classroom.

Microsoft announced several new features for education today. The unique circumstances of the last year pushed education to new areas, and many of the new features help extend the education experience outside the walls of a classroom. Among the new features, Microsoft announced Minecraft: Education Edition for Camps and Clubs and the ability to integrate Microsoft Teams with Minecraft: Education Edition.

Minecraft: Education Edition and Microsoft Teams may be vastly different pieces of technology, but they are both powerful tools for education. They’re also both owned by Microsoft. Now, educators can integrate the two together, including embedding a Flipgrid Topic, Forms quiz, or an assessment tool using resource links. Within a Minecraft lesson, students can open a Flipgrid Topic, record and share creations, and invite other people to join them.

Thankfully for those who want to use it outside of the classroom, Microsoft just announced Minecraft: Education Edition for Camps and Clubs. Starting this summer, camps, clubs, homeschool organizations, and nonprofits can purchase licenses for Minecraft: Education Edition.

What Does A 10

We have just completed week one, Mr 10 built the required Great Pyramid and then built the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus for fun. He submitted 10 multiple choice questions based on the reading material and videos supplied in the course and wrote a 2 paragraph essay about his chosen wonder.

Does that sound too much like school? Dont be fooled!

I never knew school work could be this much fun.

Im doing history at 6am!

Can we go to the British Museum to see the bits of the Mausoleum?

Hes loving it!

He finds the subject matter really interesting and is forever telling me random new facts hes learned. The questions were relatively simple so it was easy to pull the answers from the text and because he was so caught up in the fun of learning, he even did the essay without complaint.

This is a child who normally does not write and is only ever forced to produce written work for Australia homeschool reports. Regulations require 6 pieces of written work per year in my state. These are , quite literally, all he has ever done. But the kid nailed it!

The course not only inspired a hugely enjoyable museum visit, it also brought about a fair bit of Googling and You Tube video watching too.

Redstone Lab helps the students with their use of redstone, its claimed to be similar to electrical engineering, I can certainly see some aspects of circuits in there. We didnt try that last week, so I cant comment for now. .

Three years ago, after repeated requests from the homeschool community, Google welcomed homeschool co-ops to begin using its G Suite for Education . Beginning in 2018, co-ops who wanted to use the popular classroom collaboration software could do so.

Now Microsoft has taken a similar step with the popular game Minecraft: Education Edition.

After numerous homeschool groups contacted the software giant pointing out that their members wanted access, Microsoft announced earlier this month that Minecraft: Education Edition is now available for camps, clubs, after-school programs, homeschools, nonprofits, and other institutions via our beta program.

It doesnt appear that the education edition of the game is available to individual families. Also, its not a free productlike many online services, it is based on a monthly subscription.

HSLDA doesnt take a position on whether groups should use Minecraft as part of their curriculum, although some parents like our bloggers do suggest using games as stealth education!

But as part of our mission to make homeschooling possible, we are glad to see more organizations and businesses granting access to homeschoolers.

So if your family likes learning with games, talk to your group leader about whether the blocky graphics of a made-up online world might lead to real-life education.

Microsoft’s Minecraft Education Has Free Lessons For Kids In Quarantine

Microsoft’s Minecraft: Education Edition adds free lessons for kids stuck at home, including ten worlds with lesson plans and educational activities.

With so many children currently out of school and stuck at home during the COVID-19 outbreak, Minecraft is stepping in to help parents teach their kids at home with free educational content. Minecraft is a sandbox video game allowing players to explore a universe made entirely of blocks, as well as giving them the resources to create their own worlds. It is the best selling video game of all time and, as of last year, had over 100 million monthly active players.

Minecraft has given players the tools, materials and build structures to create their own worlds, including those based on TV shows, movies and other video games. The possibilities of the game are almost as endless as players’ imaginations, but it has also proven to be a useful learning tool. With Microsoft making Minecraft’s platform open-source, some scientists have even started to use the game to help improve artificial intelligence. Minecraft also has an education edition offering a classroom variant of the game.
