How To Setup A Modded Minecraft Server

Minecraft is a fun game to play with friends, and modding the game can add many more possibilities. Server hosting websites or Minecraft Realms cost a monthly subscription to use. If you don’t have the money to have a separate website host the server for you, setting up your own server for free will be your best option. Here’s how to setup a modded Minecraft server in 1.12.2 .

Setting Up A Simple Modded Minecraft Server

Just like you can easily inject Forge mod loader into a standalone Minecraft installation you can easily inject Forge mod loader into the Minecraft server.

You can reuse the same installer you used for Forge in the previous modding tutorial simply rerun it and adjust the settings as such:

Select Install server and point it at a fresh directory. You dont need to install a server and then install Forge, like you need to install Minecraft and then install Forge like we did in the client-side tutorial.

Note: If you jumped down to this section because you were so excited about mods on your server, well still encourage you to read the previous section as several of the steps are identical, and were not repeating them all in detail for this portion of the tutorial.

Give it a minute to download both the server and Forge files, then visit the installation folder. The next steps will look a whole lot like the vanilla Minecraft server setup.

Within the folder, run the forge.*.universal.jar file using the exact same command you used, based on your operating system from the vanilla installation portion of this tutorial.

The server will run and then halt, indicating as it did in the previous section that you need to accept the EULA. Open up the freshly created EULA.txt and edit the false to true just like last time.

Everything looks good. We even spawned near a village, which is always fun. Lets show these villagers how to party by spawning a portal to a magical dimension.

Using Minecraft Forge And Installing Mods

  • Login to your Multicraft control panel.

  • Check what version of Minecraft the mod you wish to add.

  • Stop your server then from the JAR dropdown, choose the correct Forge version for the Minecraft version. For some mods you may need to choose the Forge Beta alternative on the dropdown, rather than the recommended version.

  • Start/Restart your server, then once it is responding, stop it.

  • Upload the mods that you want to add onto your server. We suggest using FileZilla to do this, which you can find a guide for here: How to connect to FTP

  • Start up your server, all the mods should now be ready to go!

[2020] HOW TO INSTALL MODS AND MODPACKS FOR MINECRAFT EASY ...

Before modding Minecraft, there are a few things you need to do.

    • Ensure that your device can handle mods. If youre playing on a PC, for example, you might want to upgrade your graphics to the latest version available.
    • Make sure your device has enough storage. As with all installations, mods take up space.
    • Familiarize yourself with the standard process of downloading external programs.
    • Know the game edition youre playing. Some mods are best suited for specific editions.
    • Know how to Add Mods to Minecraft.

Mods are simple to download and install, but it is important to note that not all Minecraft editions use mods. If you want to use mods, you must be using the Java edition of Minecraft. Consoles, as well as the Bedrock edition, do not accommodate mods. However, programmers have come up with add-ons that can be added to the Bedrock edition, serving the same purpose as mods.

Assuming youre using the Java edition of Minecraft, installing mods is simple. However, theres a catch. Mods do not work in regular Minecraft. First, you must install Forge. This program is specialized and designed to integrate mods into Minecraft. Luckily, Forge is widely available on the internet, and its installation is straightforward.

When downloading Forge, choose the install file that matches your selected mods version requirements. If your mods are built for version 1.15.3, you must download and install version 1.15.3 of Forge.

    Fine Tuning With Serverproperties

Inside the server folder youll find a file named server.properties. If you open this file in a text editor youll find a simple configuration file that can be manually edited. While some of these settings are available via server/in-game commands, many of them are not.

Using simple true/false or numerical toggles its possible to allow players to fly during survival mode, turn off The Nether, adjust server timeout settings, and a host of other variables. While many of the settings are fairly self-explanatory, a few require a more in-depth understanding of the variable involved. Check out this detailed breakdown of the server.properties variables.

Armed with a server, modded or otherwise, you now no longer have to worry about making sure the right person is online at the right time in order to access your world .

    Installation For The 16 Launcher

  • Open the 1.6+ launcher and make sure the version of Minecraft the mod requires is already installed.
  • Go into the subfolder “versions”.
  • Rename the folder for the version you require to something else. In this example, rename “1.8.3” to “1.8.3_Modded”.
  • Open the 1.8.3_Modded folder.
  • Rename “1.8.3.jar” to “1.8.3_Modded.jar”.
  • Rename “1.8.3.json” to “1.8.3_Modded.json”.
  • Open “1.8.3_Modded.json” with a text editor and replace “id”:”1.8.3″ with “id”:”1.8.3_Modded”, save the file and close it.
  • Open the jar file so you can see all the files in it. You can do this by changing the .jar to .zip and unzipping it. You only need the new jar folder and the json so delete everything else on that directory. No need for WinRAR or 7-Zip. Copy-paste the mod files into the “1.8.3_Modded” new jar folder.
  • File extensions may be hidden by default, so you may need to tell your File Explorer to not hide them. In Windows 10, simply click View near the top and locate and check the box that says “File Name Extensions”. In older versions of windows you will need to go to Organize to locate the box.
  • Delete META-INF .
  • Start the 1.6+ launcher.
  • In “Use Version”, select “1.8.3_Modded”.
  • Login and play as normal.

    Installing Mods With Minecraft Forge

First, find a mod you like and download it. It should be a .jar file. Here is a good website for downloading mods. After downloading a mod, go to the Minecraft Forge homepage. Now select your version from the list. This tutorial uses 1.8.8 as an example. Download the .jar file of the version you want to mod and run it. Just click OK, you don’t need to bother with anything else. After that, install it and then launch Minecraft. Now locate your .minecraft folder. There should be a new folder named ‘mods’.

Now drag and drop your downloaded mod file into this folder and open up the Minecraft Launcher. Before clicking Play, click ‘Edit Profile’ to the left. On the ‘Select Version’ drop down menu, go to the bottom and you will find a ‘1.8.8Forge’ version . Click that, then OK, and then click Play. It will take longer than usual to load up, especially if you are using multiple mods. Start a world and if whatever your mod does is there, you have successfully installed a mod using Minecraft Forge.

Setting Up A Simple Vanilla Minecraft Server

There are two ways to approach installing the simple vanilla Mojang-supplied Minecraft server. One method is very Windows-centric as you simply download an .EXE file and run it, with a convenient little graphical user window. That method doesnt necessarily help OS X and Linux users however, so were going to use the .JAR based method which will help expand the process across all the platforms with only very minor tweaks necessary to shift between operating systems.

The first order of business is to download the official Minecraft server JAR file. As of this tutorial the version is 1.7.10. You can find it at the bottom of . Regardless of your operating system, you want the .JAR file.

After the file has finished downloading, move the .JAR file to a more permanent location. We placed the file in a /HTG Test Server/. You can place it anywhere you want but label it clearly, place it somewhere safe, and be aware that once you run the .JAR file all the server-related stuff will be downloaded/unpacked in folder the .JAR is located in, so dont place it somewhere like a drive root or a home folder.

Execute the server for the first time by running the following command at the command prompt from the directory the .JAR file is located in, of course:

    Windows: java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar nogui

    OS X: java -Xms1G -Xmx1G -jar minecraft_server. 1.7.10.jar nogui

    Linux: java -Xms1G -Xmx1G -jar minecraft_server. 1.7.10.jar nogui
