Establish Pc Vr Connection Before Running Minecraft

How To Play Minecraft in VR | Java & Bedrock Edition Tutorial

Since your PC will be doing all the hard work of running the game, then before running Minecraft you are going to have to establish a PCVR connection between your headset and PC.

For the Quest 2, this means that you establish a regular wired Link or Air Link connection and then launch either Minecraft Java Edition or Bedrock edition. For the Minecraft Java Edition, Virtual Desktop will work as well.

If you launch Minecraft before connecting your headset and PC, the game will understandably only start on your PC

Run The Game In Regular Mode

Most of you have probably done this already, but before trying to launch Minecraft in VR, make a test run of the game in regular flat screen mode. Especially if you just installed the game.

By running the game, it will automatically create all the necessary configuration files and folders.

Secondly, you can verify that the game does indeed work in regular flat screen mode. If it doesnt, there is no point in trying it in VR, is it?

How Can You Play Minecraft On Oculus Quest 2 Without A Pc

Unfortunately at this time, there is no official way to play Minecraft VR without a PC VR-ready PC.

You use to be able to download the Minecraft Gear VR version, sideload that and play that way, but the Gear VR version was discontinued in October 2021. There are constant updates to the Minecraft platform and the Gear VR version has not been updated and maintained in a long time. It will not be able to work with Minecraft for much longer if you have this option currently.

How To Play Minecraft On Quest 2

The good news is that theres a couple of ways to play Minecraft on Quest. The bad news is that none of them are perfect Microsoft has yet to bring an official, standalone version of the game natively to Quest 2.

However, a new port of the Java Edition unofficially brings Minecraft to Quest in standalone format for the first time, albeit with incredibly variable performance and a somewhat finicky install process.

If youd rather play something more stable and official, your only other option is to connect your Quest to a VR-ready PC, either wired or wirelessly, and play the Oculus Rift version of the game on Quest via Oculus Link or Virtual Desktop.

Heres a breakdown of the process for both.

How To Install Minecraft On The Oculus Quest

Minecraft VR

Despite not being available in the official Quest store, you can still install Minecraft VR Oculus Quest as long as you have the following things:

  • Oculus Quest VR Heaset
  • Oculus Link cable or Virtual Desktop and Quest mod
  • Minecraft
  • Both Oculus Link and Virtual Desktop will work to play Minecraft. Since the charging cable now works for Link, its the free method to setup Minecraft. However, you will have a cable attached to your PC which some people just dont like. Well show both options below.

Once you have all of those, here is how to install Minecraft VR on the Oculus Quest:

    Minecraft Vr Vs Vivecraft

Virtual reality support has been added to Minecraft VR through a close partnership with Facebook and Oculus. Oculus headset owners can download the VR addon for free from the Oculus store. When they run it in their VR headset, Minecraft will launch with full VR support. When the Minecraft game is updated, Rift S owners have VR support immediately. There is no need to wait for a mod to catch up with the main game release.

This sounds great, but its a bit more complicated than that. For starters, there are actually two active versions of Minecraft: Windows edition and Java edition. Lets go over those two first:

What Does It Feel Like To Play Minecraft With Vr

Anyone who has played video games with a VR headset can tell you that some games feel a lot smoother than others. Some VR experiences can feel clunky and feel more like youre seeing the game through the camera of a machine.

However, Minecraft is the complete opposite. Youre not playing the game, you ARE the game.

Everything that happens to your character, feels like its happening to you. If a Creeper blows up behind you, the anticipation and the fear of losing your inventory is real.

Often with games, you dont get the feeling of being connected to what youre playing. When you create your world and make it unique to any other, you need that connection to keep you having fun.

    3. Minecraft Java Installed

You should also install the official Minecraft Java edition before you install anything else from the list. It goes without saying that this installation is the most important as we will need the game itself. You can go ahead and get the game from the Microsoft/Minecraft Store or look for it in your Xbox Game Pass library. So go ahead and install it before proceeding.

    4. Vivecraft

Vivecraft is a mod that allows Minecraft Java to run in VR easily. This is also an important part of the process so make sure to download and install it before we begin. You can go ahead and get Vivecrafts latest mod from the Vivecraft Downloads page.

Minecraft Vr Is Now Available On The Meta Quest

Mojangs best-selling video game arrives on Metas best-selling VR headset.

QuestCraft is a standalone VR port of Minecraft: Java Edition that offers players access to the full Minecraft experience in VR without the need for an expensive gaming PC. This includes support for motion controls as well as cross-platform multiplayer.

Developed by a team of independent developers, the unofficial port was built using MCXR and PojavLauncher and is capable of running certain Fabric mods . According to one of the projects developers, this is a direct port of Minecraft 1.18, which means like Vivecraft , an official Minecraft account is required in order to play.

Were using an android wrapper for Minecraft called PojavLauncher to run Minecraft itself on Android, saidQuestCraft developer Flamgop. We are not using Vivecraft but a similar mod for fabric called MCXR, were doing this because its performance is significantly better than Vivecraft. You have to have an account to play QuestCraft and we arent selling this so we are still following the EULA.

Anyone whos had the pleasure of experiencing Minecraft in VR will tell you how well the game translates to the immersive format. Since the launch of the original Oculus Quest back in 2019, players have been begging for an official VR port, not including 2016s Minecraft: Gear VR Edition for the now-discontinued Samsung Gear VR headset.

Check That Steamvr Is Installed & Running Properly

Vivecraft, the custom mod that transforms Minecraft into a VR experience, uses SteamVR to commincate with your VR hardware. For this reason, SteamVR must be installed and configured properly in a way that it is able to detect your headset and controllers.

I personally did not have to launch SteamVR separately before starting the game. By establishing an Oculus Air Link connection and then launching Vivecraft from the Minecraft Launcher, it automatically started SteamVR and Minecraft Java Edition after that.

But in case you are having trouble, try launching SteamVR before launching the game in VR.

How To Play Minecraft For Vr

First of all, youll need to make sure you have the VR version of the game downloaded. If you have the full game already then this will be available to you as a free extension.

When loading up Minecraft VR for the first time you will be given a choice of two control options: classic controls and the recommended VR controls.

Although these are a set combination of controls, you can customize individual aspects to suit your gaming needs. You can do this in the pause menu, under the options tab. From here you enter the controls section and customize it to your satisfaction.

At the end of the day, there are no correct combinations for your controls, it all revolves around how you want to play and what suits you best. In Minecraft for PlayStation, the only way to move and use your controls is to use your PlayStation controller or your PC/laptop keyboard.

Although the game is a different version, the only difference, when it comes to the actual gameplay, is the way you see the game. The controls only differ by the sensitivity of your looking around. With the headset, the sensitivity is however quickly you can turn your head.

However, with the controller, you can adjust the sensitivity to suit your gaming style. Youll be able to change the sensitivity for both the horizontal and the vertical directions separately, making it easy to shape your game around your needs.

Configure Vivecraft To Use Dedicated Gpu

âMinecraftâ VR Is the Best Game on the Oculus Rift, But Thatâs Not ...

This section is for people using a PC with dual graphics cards. For example, gaming laptops often have an integrated GPU as well as the more powerful dedicated GPU that is meant for gaming.

If you have a computer with dual GPUs and Minecraft Java Edition only loads up on the desktop but not in the headset, the problem might be that Minecraft is using the integrated GPU which is not suitable for VR gaming.

In order to force Minecraft to use the more powerful dedicated GPU, follow these steps:

    • Launch Vivecraft from Minecraft Launcher
    • Open Task Manager and navigate to Details tab
    • Press j on your keyboard and locate javaw.exe process
    • Right-click on the process and select Open file location
    • Copy the folder location
    • Right-click on Desktop and select Display settings
    • Scroll down and select Graphics settings
    • Click on Browse
    • Paste the location you copied earlier and select the javaw.exe executable
    • Select High performance and save.
    • If anything was left unclear, go ahead and watch my step-by-step Youtube video about this below:

Note! Different Vivecraft versions might use different javaw executables. So if you have several versions of Vivecraft installed and/or are installing a new version, you will have to repeat this process.
