Learn How To Code With Minecraft In 60 Minutes Or Less | Minecraft Hour Of Code

Minecrafts developers are aware of the efforts that go into finding certain in-game locations. Thats why they have included a command in every edition of the game to easily find locations, including villages. But you first need to make sure to turn on cheats in your Minecraft world.

Cheats can be turned on under LAN settings in Minecraft Java Edition. Meanwhile, Bedrock users can turn them on in world settings. Both are available on the pause screen. Once the cheats are on, use the following steps to find a village in Minecraft.

1. Now, open the chat option in your Minecraft world. Its available on top of the screen for mobile editions, and theres a dedicated button for it on console editions. Meanwhile, PC users need to press thet key or / key to open it. Once the chat window opens, you need to type /locate village and press Enter.

2. Minecraft will then look for the closest village and display its coordinates. Now, you can either walk to those coordinates, or you can use the /tp X Y Z command to teleport to that location. Here, X, Y, & Z are the coordinates of the village. If you are on the Minecraft 1.18 update, make sure to keep the Y value above 100.

What Educators Are Saying About The New Code Builder

I use Minecraft to teach the basic about coding with MakeCode. The students are 10-12 years old and during the time they learn how to code they also discover how a computer works. I think it is important for our students to develop computational skills, because they are going to need it in the future. Leticia Ahumada, Spain

I have students who only use text-based coding and others who struggle with the computational thinking aspect and use the tutorials. I love it because students are engaged, theyre learning and they share their experience with others. Please come try my program is a frequent comment uttered in our coding period. James Wood, U.S.

Code Builder can be taught by teachers that might not have advanced coding skills themselves. Being able to work in a 3D environment is exciting. I love seeing the looks on the faces of my students and there never seems to be any problem with engagement. It helps develop resilience and determination when faced with failure. Great Growth Mindset teaching. Michael Clemens, New Zealand

Right now, 2 middle schools in my district are using the Code Builder and/or the CS curriculum from MEE to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders programming. I foresee this being a great way for students to have a wonderful background knowledge in Javascript as they enter high school. Trish Cloud, U.S.

Minecraft Education Edition: The New Learn

How can a videogame let students learn how to code? The education platform for learning Minecraft: Education Edition can motivate and inspire every student to achieve more, and ignite a true passion for learning. The new extension Code Builder released in May 2017 shall inspire students even more.

We already wrote about the benefits of gaming in schools in a previous article, stating that educational video games and simulators teach many technical skills such as algebra, biology, computer programming and flight training. The most important thing, though, is that simulation games develop childrens soft skills, such as sense of self esteem, socialization skills, leadership, team building and problem solving. That is true also in the case of Minecraft: Education Edition, for students at every step of their school career: lets see its features and its benefits, discovering in the end the newest extension Code Builder.

Try Your New Minecraft Commands

The Minecraft Wiki is a great resource for learning what other commands you can use and their additional arguments, if they have any. There are many commands to learn and master. In addition to learning what the commands are, learning how to use target selectors is very important. Furthermore, a strong understanding of the coordinate system will be crucial for being able to effectively use commands that make use of coordinate arguments. The key to getting better at using commands is practice.

Can Minecraft Teach My Kid To Code

Minecraft has proven to be a flexible platform for education. It has been used as a tool for teaching a myriad of concepts, so it makes sense to assume it would be useful for teaching coding to kids. And it is!

Minecraft does a great job of providing an environment to learn coding in by giving students both a place to virtually meet with their educators and by visually showing them the effects that coding can have. But it isnt as simple as launching the game and letting the kids learn. Instead, it works best as one of many tools used in a more complete coding curriculum.

As part of our interactive coding curriculum we teach our students how to create their very own games based off of Minecraft. Theyre able to learn programming in an exciting hands-on environment that does more than teach them the basic principles. It teaches them how to apply them. And unlike so many video-based programs, our coding classes for elementary, middle, and high school, are taught by live teachers so our students can get feedback on their projects in real-time.

The main thing is this: Minecraft on its own will not be able to teach a kid how to code. Rather, it is a great way to build their interest in coding and can be useful as an educational tool in a well-crafted curriculum.

Is Minecraft Safe For Kids

Minecraft is safe for kids when good digital citizenship is followed. Make sure you and your child only play on a server they own or trust. Monitor who is joining the server or game, and ensure you actually know all participants. Remind your child not to give out any personal information and not to converse with someone they dont know. Obtain your own account and join them in Minecraft to understand the game and spend time with your child.

Find Minecraft Villages Using Seed Analysis Tool

If you already have a Minecraft world in place, finding a new seed might not be ideal for you. However, you can use one of the many online seed analyzers to find villages within your existing Minecraft worlds. But first, you need to find the seed code of your world.

To do so, you can either use the /seedcommand in the chatbox. Or you can check your world settings to find the seed code.

How to Analyze a Seed Online

The seed analyzer we are using in this tutorial is from Chunkbase. To get started, note down your worlds seed code and open up the seed analyzer using this link. Then, follow the steps below:

1. On Chunkbase, enter the seed code and choose your game version using the dedicated options. You can leave the dimension as overworld because villagers only spawn in the overworld dimension of Minecraft.

2. Once you have entered the seed code, you need to scroll down and find a map of that seed. Just above the map is the option to turn various map features and indicators on and off. Make sure the village indicator is turned on. Its indicated using a villagers face.

You can to find the exact coordinates of that village along with its biome. Additionally, you can also see your spawn location, which is indicated by a compass. Its the only way to find all villages in a Minecraft world.

How Can I Optimize A Minecraft Server

Optimizing your server is basically knowing how to remove annoying server lag. But, its more than just removing lags, in this section, we will tell you how you can prevent server lags.

Truth is, there are a lot of tools made available for you to use to get boost your servers performance and even push it past its normal performing capacity.

Removing Lag/ Ticks

In our previous article, youve learned about Redstones. While Redstones can be a wonderful mechanic to create any kind of machine, it may cause your server performance to slow down in its efficiency. Too many Redstones can decrease your TPS, which can cause lags for players.

Limiting the machines and installing anti-Redstone-lag plugins will help your server perform in its optimal condition.

Or, you may want to decrease your mob grinders, automated farms, or anything that would require complex mechanics from your Redstones.

You might want to include a method to turn off your machines and farms when you do not need them so it wont eat up your server resources.

Use Plugins

There are many plugins available for you to reduce lag times. If you happen to find plugins that actually work, you can conclude that lags can be reduced dramatically on your server after youve included a plugin to work on its backend.

Pregenerating your gameplay

Entering this command will prompt the game to pre-generate a 5,000 block radius around the world spawn.

Organically Locate Villages In Minecraft

Teach Kids to Code with Minecraft on

Lastly, the traditional way of finding villages is by exploring your world in Minecraft. Without any arguments, its also the real way in which Minecraft wants you to find the villages in-game. However, instead of aimlessly roaming around, you can use the following tips to optimize your search.

  • Only a few Minecraft biomes can spawn villages in them. So, you should only look for desert, taiga, plains, meadow, savanna, snowy plains, and taiga biomes. Additionally, you can also find villages in Snowy Taiga and Sunflower Plains biome in the Bedrock edition.
  • While looking for villages, make sure you have enough food and weapons to help you survive and fight off mobs.
  • You can climb mountains and trees to find villages much more easily. Just make sure your rendering distance is high enough in the video settings.
  • If you travel during the night, torches in villages are easy to see from a distance. You can use the best Minecraft shaders for more accurate and easier to locate light sources in the game.
  • Once you find a village, make sure to sleep in your or a villagers bed there. It will reset your spawn point to that village. So, even if you die, you wont have to look for the village again.

This may not sound like much if your sights are set on creating full-fledged mods, but seeing your code come to life is an incredible feeling that gets many engineers hooked for life. This is your first step!

Examine the prompt before copying the code into your text editor. This is a good example to demonstrate how you should be thinking like a computer scientist.

Note: Don’t understand programmer’s lingo? Here’s a JavaScript cheat sheet.

  • First, we call an object’s function with mobs.spawn. This is how we specify what we want the computer to do. We want Minecraft to spawn a mob.
  • Great, but what kind of mob? Here we specify a variableCHICKENto tell the computer which mob we want to spawn.
  • mobs.spawn takes in two parameters: mob type and position. We still need to tell the computer where we want the mob to spawn. We do this with pos where is the XYZ coordinates with respect to your Minecraft character.
  • mobs.spawn)

Click the Play button to run your code. Switch back to Minecraft and look up! If everything went smoothly, you’ve spawned a feathered friend.
