Server Is Accessible Through Ip But Not Domain Name
As the title states, I have a server that I’m running on a dedicated machine with multiple IP addresses and two domain names, but when I try to access the server through a domain name, I get an “unable to connect” error. However, when I try to connect via an IP address, I’m able to connect flawlessly.
Server is running Debian 7, OpenJDK Runtime Environment 1.7.0_65, Minecraft version 1.8
Any and all help is appreciated, snarky comments are glared at and ignored
edit: Minecraft error states “java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information” if that helps at all

Connecting Your Domain To Your Minecraft Server
If you have a dedicated IP with default port 25565 please follow these steps, otherwise scroll down:

3. You will see 3 input fields:

Note: You can use multiple A records at the same time, so you can for example make all 3 of the above mentioned.
IPv4 Address:
Here you will type your Minecraft IP Address
TTL:
Here you will always type 10000
4. Once you are done, click on the Add Record button.
Note: DNS editing takes up to 24 hours to take effect, do not be alarmed if you cannot use your domain immediately.
If you have no dedicated IP please follow these steps:
Even if you have no dedicated IP you can still configure your domain to hide your Minecraft port.

Getting Started With A Custom Minecraft Domain Name
Before you start, you need three things.
In this tutorial, the dns zone file will be edited with the Cpanel zone file editor.
Once you have your custom Minecraft domain registered and you have a Cpanel hosted account which allows you to edit the dns settings for the custom domain, you are ready to start configuring the zone file.
NOTE: The default port for Minecraft servers is: 25565 but if you have a different port, then obviously in the steps below insert your custom Minecraft port.

If you’ve entered the correct entries, you can now use your custom domain to connect to your server. Once saved, your domain should normally be ready to use. However, if it doesn’t work immediately, allow up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

DNS is a TCP/IP network service that translates user-friendly hostnames into IP addresses. For example, if you type
into your browsers address bar, the DNS server with which your computer is associated attempts to resolve the fully qualified domain name , servers.minecraftforum.net, into the IP address of that particular web server.
The hostname part of the previous FQDN is servers the domain name is minecraftforum.net. The specifics of DNS name resolution are far outside the scope of this book for our purposes, all you need to know is that companies like No-IP and Dyn will map an FQDN to your routers public IP address, and even adjust the mapping on the fly when your routers public IP changes.
Known Issues And Limitations
Moving domains has a number of issues and limitations.Most of them are valid for all moving operations . Other limitations applyto moving add-on domains only or main domains only.
All moving operations
Only the following users can move an add-on domain to a new subscription and a main domain to an existing subscription:
- The Plesk administrator.
- Resellers that have the âSubscription creation in Server Administration Panel and domain creation in Customer Panelâpermission.
You cannot move a domain if there is already a domain with the same document rootowned by the target subscription.To move the domain, change its âDocument rootâ value .
A domain with mail service cannot be moved to a subscription without one.
If a domain with custom additional Apache or nginx directives was moved to another subscription,the directives are preserved and you may need to review them.
If you move a domain that has both:
The additional user will lose access to the application.The login and password of the applicationâs administratorwill be changed .
If you move a domain with a mail user to a subscription that belongs to another owner,the email address will be detached from the mail user.
If you move a domain to a subscription with different PHP settings,the target subscription will be locked.

Apex Hosting offers dedicated IPs for Minecraft servers. A dedicated IP is reserved for only one server and isnt shared with others. With it your server will be able to be connected to using the default port 25565. So you only have to enter in the IP without the trailing :port number. If you have a domain , you can redirect it to this IP and use it to connect to the server instead without the trailing :port either. This allows your server to appear more professional and is easier to memorize and join.

Disclaimer
Dedicated IPs are not on demand, there is a 2 days waiting period. In some cases we may need to move your server to a node that has available dedicated IPs. All this means for you is that you server will be hosted on a different node, all the files will remain the same. The only real change would be the IP:PORT, but that wont matter once you have your dedicated IP.
