How To Add Mods to a Minecraft Server in Minecraft 1.16.1
  • Visit and download the version of Forge that matches your mods. If youre using Mac/Linux, youll need to use Installer to add Forge. If youre using Windows, youre free to download Forge using the Windows version of the installer.
  • Once the download is complete, double-click on the installer and hit Run.
  • Select Install server.
  • Pick a location where you want Forge to install. For ease of access, we recommend that you use a temporary folder on your Desktop.
  • Click OK to download Forge files. Avoid interrupting the process until all files get downloaded.
  • Inside the Forge files, locate a file named Forge Universal JAR. Rename the file to custom.jar.
  • At this point, upload the generated files to your server via FTP. An FTP client is preferable over the web FTP interface because you are uploading multiple files. Once the upload completes, visit the Control Panel and pick the Custom JAR option found under Server Type. And thats it. Youre done!

On the ‘Select Version’ drop down menu, go to the bottom and you will find a ‘1.8.8Forge’ version . Click that, then OK, and then click Play. Installing Minecraft Mods On Windows

There are a few different ways to get mods running with Minecraft, but the easiest and most popular method requires an application called Forge. Heres how it works:

Step 1: Go to the official Forge website and download the recommended version of the software. You can also install the latest version of Forge, but it could have some unresolved bugs that will affect your ability to properly run some mods.

Step 2: Download the mods you want to install from a reliable source. CurseForge is a popular location with hundreds of great mods to choose from. However, not all mods are compatible with all versions of Minecraft, or even with Forge. Make sure to research the specific mod youre interested in to find out if its compatible with your software.

Step 3: Create the mods folder in the .minecraft directory. Heres the target address:

If the AppData folder isnt visible in File Explorer, click View at the apps top and then check Hidden Items.

If this is your first mod, there is no mods folder within the .minecraft folder. With the .minecraft folder open, right-click within File Explorer and select New followed by Folder on the pop-up menu. Name that folder mods.

Step 4: Move the downloaded mod into the Mods folder.

Step 5: Run Minecraft, but first make sure your Forge account is active. If not, your mods wont load properly.

The server must be completely stopped before uploading via FTP. The server must not be running, starting, or stopping. The plugins are then uploaded to the Saves FTP using an FTP program .You can find the login data in the FTP overview by clicking on FTP.Depending on the modframework, the mods belong in /ConfigID/mods or /ConfigID/plugins.For this you create, if not already present, in the configuration of the game server the folder “plugins” or “mods” and upload the Jar file of the pluginTo note

  • Do not unpack the Jarfile!
  • After the next start and stop, the config files of the respective plugin/mods are also present on the Saves FTP.

How To Add Plugins To Spigot

Plugins are add-ons to your Minecraft server, changing how you play the game. Minecraft servers are often shared with friends and others so they can join. With some plugins, you can add new features such as altered NPCs, in-game economy, and making everything in a part of the world indestructible.

Think of plugins as browser extensions, but for Minecraft servers instead of Google Chrome. Plugins dont modify the game at all, as that is what mods do . As such, plugins tend not to cause changes as radical as mods can.

Despite this, plugins are attractive due to their convenience. Installing mods will require you to change your copy of Minecraft in some way. Plugins instead only get installed on the server, so theres no risk of altering your game files in a harmful way.

Where Can I Find Spigot Plugins

There are a few websites that offer free downloads of plugins. Some developers lock their plugins behind a paywall. The good news is that you dont necessarily need these plugins.

Heres a list of websites to get plugins:

    · The Resources section of the Spigot website

    · The Projects page of the Bukkit website

    · GitHub, where some developers work and offer downloads

  • Open the 1.6+ launcher and make sure the version of Minecraft the mod requires is already installed.
  • Go into the subfolder “versions”.
  • Rename the folder for the version you require to something else. In this example, rename “1.8.3” to “1.8.3_Modded”.
  • Open the 1.8.3_Modded folder.
  • Rename “1.8.3.jar” to “1.8.3_Modded.jar”.
  • Rename “1.8.3.json” to “1.8.3_Modded.json”.

  • File extensions may be hidden by default, so you may need to tell your File Explorer to not hide them. In Windows 10, simply click View near the top and locate and check the box that says “File Name Extensions”. In older versions of windows you will need to go to Organize to locate the box.
  • Delete META-INF .
  • Start the 1.6+ launcher.
  • In “Use Version”, select “1.8.3_Modded”.

    Why Run A Minecraft Server

One of the most frustrating elements of the Minecraft local multiplayer experience is that the original game host has to be active to access previous creations. If there are two parents and two kids playing Minecraft in a household for example, and they spend a few hours one weekend working on a big structure hosted by Kid #2, then anytime anyone wants to work on that world/structure again they need Kid #2 to fire up their game and share it with everyone else by opening it to the LAN. Factor in that each world resides on each separate computer and suddenly it becomes a real hassle for more than one person to work on a given map.

A much more efficient way to go about doing things is to host a stand-alone server on the local network. This way players can come and go as they please without any one person needing to log in and share their world. Even better, you can host a Minecraft server on a machine that isnt well suited for actually playing Minecraft .

Lets take a look at how to setup a basic local Minecraft server both with and without mods.
