I Mean Its Good But Has Its Flaws Too
The reports that Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition is the best version of the game are greatly exaggerated. Mark Twain aka Jed Whitaker
No, really. People are acting like it is the best thing since sliced bread when it reality it is just week old bread: still tasty, still functional, and still the thing you love. Just, ya know, it would be better fresh, or in this case on PC and basically every other console. Also, this bread costs $10 more than anywhere else because the baker dropped some food coloring into the dough to make some of the bread look like Super Mario Bros. characters.
BUTBUTBUTMUH PORTABLE! I know what youre saying, but currently, the Nintendo Switch has Xbox One syndrome with all of its ports, meaning they all run lower resolution and often times have issues keeping a stable framerate. Minecraft is no exception.
Alright, so lets break this down. First the good: it is Minecraft that you can play on the go, even with two players via split screen with a plethora of options dedicated to how the screen and HUD are displayed in multiplayer. That will probably be enough of a selling point for most of you, but wait, theres more! Touchscreen support is included for quickly selecting options and inventories if youre the brave type that isnt worried about scratching your delicate Switch screen, pending your dock hasnt already done so for you.
Minecraft Dungeons Switch Eshop File Size Revealed
Next week sees the release of MInecraft Dungeons on the Switch and multiple other platforms such as Xbox Game Pass. If you’re as excited as we are about it, then you might be eager to know how much space it’ll take up on your hybrid system.
According to Nintendo’s official website, it’ll require 3.2 GB of free space when it arrives on 26th May. However, the Switch eShop in both the US and UK list the file size as 3.6 GB – so it’s likely this big. That’s a lot more than the actual Minecraft, which only takes up 463 MB. It also happens to be larger than the Xbox One and PC file size of Minecraft Dungeons – listed as 2.54 GB on the Microsoft Store. In terms of the price, the Switch version will set you back $19.99 / £16.74.
If you haven’t seen our previous story, this dungeon spin-off allows up to four friends to team up locally or online, but will not include random matchmaking. Mojang is also looking forward to adding cross-platform play in a future update.
Will you be trying this out on the Switch next week? Tell us in the comments.

Minecraft Realms Plus Updates
If you’ve opted for the 10-player subscription to Realms Plus, you should keep an eye out for the monthly updates on the official website. New maps, character skins, and mini-games are constantly being added and as they’re available for free with Realms Plus, it seems silly not to at least check out what’s on offer.

How To Set Up Minecraft Realms
If you want to start from scratch and create a new world in Realms, go ahead and start setting up the world as you want it, with difficulty, mode , along with any other customisations you want to add. Once you’re happy with your settings, you should look for the ‘Create on Realms’ button, just to the right of the default ‘Create’ option. You’ll then be given the option of a 10-player Realm or a 2-player Realm. Once you’ve accepted the Terms and Conditions and finalised the transaction, you’ll be able to access your new Realm and Marketplace goodies if you selected the 10-player option straight away.
Minecraft Realms is charged on a month-to-month basis so if you find that you and your friends don’t get as much use out of it as you’d hoped, you can cancel at any time by visiting the subscription section of Microsoft’s website.
It Is Only Available As A Digital Download Right Now
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition costs $29.99, but is only available as a digital download in the eShop right now. A game card version will launch later this year, but there is currently no information about when it will be available or how much it will cost. You can when it becomes available on Amazon.

How Much Does Minecraft Realms Cost

You’ll get the same benefits of your Realm always being online but you won’t have access to the Marketplace content. There’s always the option to cancel later if you feel you’re not getting much use from it.
Minecraft Online Multiplayer Is Probably Easier To Connect To Than Any Other Switch Online Multiplayer Game
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will support up to eight players at once in a session. So far, playing online multiplayer Switch games hasn’t been all that seamless. At times, the online gaming process is kind of a pain. It sounds like Mojang has figured out a way to make it really easy to see when your friends are logged into their server so you can just jump right in.
You cannot issue an invite to a friend to join your own Minecraft session instead, anyone on your friends list will automatically see your instance is live if you’re both connected to the Internet, and they can jump in via the default “join” menu.

Survival Mode & Creative Mode
Apart from the usual survival mode of Minecraft for Switch, theres also the creative mode for aspiring builders and wannabe architects. This mode is where you truly get to experience Minecrafts building capabilities. It never runs out of resources so you can build and craft to your hearts content.
This mode is much like unlimited Lego but is more intricate and complex. You can build everything from humble houses to gigantic structures, as long as you have the patience. Best of all, enemies dont attack and you wont have to worry about survival stats like hunger or health.
There is also an adventure mode where the world is more linear and RPG-like. It does prevent you from crafting as freely as in survival or creative mode. However, you can craft the basics and find materials scattered throughout the world within chests.

How Much Is Minecraft For Switch
Before you hit that Minecraft download button, youll need to take the price into consideration. After all, re-purchasing the game may be unnecessary if you already own it on a PC or other platforms. Do you truly need to buy it for the Nintendo Switch?
Like most other things, there isnt a clear-cut answer to this question. Minecraft for Nintendo Switch costs $29.99, which is decent for the sheer amount of content you get. It provides great content and gameplay, especially if youre aiming for crossplay and multiplayer. Above all, it gives you the full Minecraft experience right on a hand-held console that you can take anywhere.
If this is going to be your first Minecraft purchase, the Switch version is certainly worth the asking price. While it does lack mods and server-based experiences, what it offers can easily make up for what its missing.
Minecraft For Switch & Switch Lite
The port from PC to Switch went well with few changes. One of the most significant changes is the limitation of your world size. Moving from the PC and the larger consoles, they had to reduce the maximum world size to Medium. In terms of Minecraft, the medium is still quite large, but it is something to keep in mind. The draw distance was shortened just a bit for handheld as well. Neither of which has been an issue for me, especially considering the game runs at a clean 60 fps even in handheld.
So, if you want to play Minecraft on the Switch Lite, grab that handheld and build your heart out.

How To Play Minecraft On Nintendo Switch With Your Friends
When Minecraft first launched on Switch, it limited you to playing with people who also owned Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition. With the introduction of the Better Together update, the Switch version of Minecraft is fully compatible with other platforms which use the Bedrock version of the game. That means you can play with friends who have the game on Xbox, phones, and tablets, and PC.
Heres how to play Minecraft with your friends on Nintendo Switch:
Select Minecraft from the Switch home screen.
Select a profile to use.
Choose to Turn Off the screen reader, or Leave On the screen reader.
The screen reader is on by default. If you dont need it, select Turn Off. Otherwise, press down on your d-pad and then press the A button to leave it on, or listen to the instructions from the screen reader for more detailed information.
Select Sign In For Free.
You have to sign in to proceed. If you have a Microsoft account associated with Minecraft on any other platform or an Xbox network account, use that. Otherwise, you can create a Microsoft account for free.
Make a note of the code provided, and navigate to using a web browser on your computer or phone.
Enter the code you received in the previous step, and select Next.
Wait for the All Done! message, then close the web browser and return to your Switch.
Select the Friends tab.

You Will Need An Additional Joy
You can connect up to four players in local multiplayer mode, but Minecraft is a fairly complex game, requiring a lot of buttons and controls. So on the Switch, each player must use both the left and right Joy-Con controllers to play. You can’t split the Joy-Con into two and share it with your friend in horizontal mode.
Luckily, Joy-Con controllers are much easier to find than the Switch itself.
Minecraft Dungeons On Switch: The Bad
The first gripe is that Minecraft Dungeons doesn’t support the Nintendo Switch’s video capture feature, which is annoying. Almost every other game supports it, but for some reason, Dungeons doesn’t. There are bigger problems, though.
The biggest gripe on the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft Dungeons is the performance.
The biggest gripe on the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft Dungeons is the performance. It already takes a hit compared to the Xbox and PC versions, dropping to 30 frames per second vs. 60 frames per second at its baseline. What’s worse is that the performance can dip below 30 frames pretty harshly, picking up stuttering and freezing when there are lots of mobs on-screen. This is playing with just one player too, with four players, I imagine the performance takes an even bigger hit, as more mobs swarm around on-screen. This game definitely needs a performance bump update, somewhere down the line.
Finally, it sucks that there’s no cross-play or cross-save functionality for the Nintendo Switch version. Considering Minecraft has pioneered cross-play and cross-save with its Realms platform, bringing players together from iOS, Android, VR, consoles, and PC. The fact Minecraft Dungeons doesn’t have this from launch is odd and frustrating, although it is confirmed to be coming “later.”

Minecraft World Building On Switch Is Actually Bigger Than Wii U
According to Arstechnica, Minecraft worlds can be way larger than their Wii U counterparts.
In addition, you’re getting a lot more Minecraft to play than on the Wii U version. Each generated Switch world can be as big as 3072 x 3072 blocks, which is roughly 13 times larger than the Wii U’s pokey 864 x 864 world limit. That’s a bit more than a third the size of the PS4 and Xbox One versions’ 5120 x 5120 limitswhich, honestly, seems about right when comparing those systems’ specs.
How To Invite Friends To Your Minecraft Realms
The good news is that friends that you want to invite to your Realm don’t need to have the subscription to join and play with you.
To invite friends to your Realm, click the Edit button next to your Realm world, then select ‘Members’. You should see a list of friends that you have already invited and you’ll have the option to invite more. It seems that the number of invites you can send out is almost limitless but the people that can play on your Realm simultaneously will be limited by your subscription type so either two or ten players at a time.
This is also where you’ll be able to ‘uninvite’ players if they’ve outstayed their welcome or haven’t been active for a while.
