Minimum Minecraft Server Hosting Requirements
As you might be already aware, hosting games is often challenging since they are typically more resource-hungry than typical web applications. Thankfully, Minecraft isnt exactly a huge resource hog so you can easily host the game on web servers that meet some pretty basic specifications.
That being said, were talking here about the basic setups of Minecraft pure Vanilla as its called. For such installations and an average player group of up 10 users, you can get by with the bare minimum in the VPS hosting space.
Lets look at the exact requirements for plain Vanilla Minecraft hosting in numbers:
- 2GB RAM
- 2 CPU Core
Storage space requirements are pretty negligible in context to whats usually offered by hosting providers, so weve skipped it altogether. Just make that storage is SSD-based.
However, if youre more serious about Minecraft then youll be likely looking at hosting setups that will allow you to enjoy the game in player groups of 50 and above. You might also like to consider other possibilities such as the use of custom mods, which will increase the requirements even further.
In such cases, wed recommend a VPS hosting plan like the Minecraft Villager Plan offered by Hostinger, which includes 3GB of RAM but clocking in at $12.95/mo. As you can see, the more players you want to host, the higher your potential monthly cost gets.

Create An Admin User On Your Server
The first thing youll need to do is create a user with administrator rights on your dedicated DreamHost server. To do that, youll access your DreamHost Panel.
Once logged in, you can navigate to Dedicated Servers> Admin Users. There, you can see any existing users and create new ones.
Next, click on Add a New Admin User. This will take you to a form where youll need to designate a username and password.
Once you complete the necessary information, select Add Admin User. It may take a few minutes for this information to appear on the User Admins page.
To fully access your server and complete the steps necessary to install the Minecraft Bedrock Edition, youll also need to set up your user admin as a Secure Socket Shell user in your DreamHost user panel.
Youll then access your server using a terminal client so you can run command lines, rather than merely transferring files as you would with a Secure File Transfer Protocol application. This process can work differently on a Mac than it does on a Windows machine.
Multiplayer Mode In Minecraft
Although Minecraft can be played solo, one of its main attractions is multiplayer mode that allows users to engage with each other. This can result in many things depending on the environment.
For example, players can decide to wage war, run co-op quests, or simply co-exist in peace on their own little plots of virtual land. For multiplayer mode, there are four main options
- Playing on a Local Area Network A LAN connects a group of computers in a smaller space. For example, linking a few computers in a room is considered a LAN.
- Minecraft RealmsThe Realms concept was created by Minecraft designers to allow players to quickly host Minecraft games via the service. Its subscription based, on top of the cost of Minecraft.
- Split ScreenThis is for consoles only and allows up to four users to play Minecraft together side by side using a single screen.
- Online ServerThis is the most interesting of all and involves a user actually setting up an entire online environment from scratch to host Minecraft games. Most usually the host will rent server space from a web hosting company for this purpose.
- 2 CPU Core
Storage space is pretty negligible in context to whats offered, so well skip that here, as long as it is SSD based.
In these cases Id recommend a VPS plan like the Minecraft Villager Plan on Hostinger, offering 3GB of RAM but clocking in at $12.95/mo. As you can see, the more players you want to host, the higher your potential cost gets.

Benefits Of Running Your Own Minecraft Server
So, having reached this point in the article, are you now wondering why on earth youd go through the headache of finding your own server to host Minecraft on?
While I wouldnt blame you for shying off at this point, there are some very positive aspects of Minecraft hosting to think about.
If youve ever played a game and gotten frustrated because the version youre on doesnt have certain mods enabled, it can be frustrating. These plugins might even be readily available, just out of your reach. By hosting your own Minecraft server, you get a free choice of what to install.
Humans are social creatures and while it can be a lot of fun to be with friends, time doesnt always permit. Thankfully the digital world removes distance and Minecraft can be a great way for you to build a small community of your closest friends. Your own world within the world, so to speak.
With hosts that support a large community, rules are often created for a huge blanket effect for the benefit of the majority. If you host your own Minecraft server, you only need to consider rules that will affect your little group. Even better it will be at your pleasure and no one elses.

What To Look For In Minecraft Server Hosting
Like many other applications, Minecraft puts demands on both hardware and infrastructure. In order to enjoy a smooth gaming experience on self-hosted Minecraft environments, you need to be aware of some financial and technical details.
Although most of these details apply broadly to almost all web hosting options, some web hosts have gone a step further to offer specialized Minecraft hosting plans which may include extra Minecraft-specific features.
Running your own Minecraft server online means that youll need the hardware and bandwidth to support it. Unless you own a data center, that means renting space on a server hosted by a web hosting company like Hostinger.
To ensure that your Minecraft hosting runs smoothly, there are some things you need to consider when choosing a Minecraft hosting plan, such as

Customizing The Minecraft Bedrock Server
Before starting our Minecraft server, you can modify some of the game settings. To do this, you must modify the server.properties file. Open the file with nano.

Avoid Overly Cheap Minecraft Hosting Plans
There are many hosting companies out there that offer rates lower than the ones recommended here. However, I urge you to exercise caution when considering taking up these plans. Many of these plans will often offer sub-par services and may cut corners in areas ultimately affecting your gaming experience
Hostinger is our top pick as Minecraft hosting provider for a number of reasons. The first and foremost is that it is extremely rare to find a host that offers plans specially built to cater for Minecraft hosting.
Their Minecraft hosting plans are built on VPS servers, meaning you will get the dedicated resources needed to host Minecraft. Their plan structure is also built around the concept, offering a minimum of 2GB memory, near instant Minecraft server setup, and technical support that can help if you get stuck.
Installing Nukkitx On Windows
Fortunately, running NukkitX on Windows is a little bit easier. To run NukkitX on windows, you must install Java first. To download Java for Windows, go to the following Webpage: . Download Java for Windows. Use the installer to install Java. Once Java is installed, you must create a startup script. Open the Start screen and type in cmd. Press enter. This will open up the Windows command prompt. Use the cd command to cd into the directory which you installed NukkitX in. Enter in the following command to create the startup script:
echo “” > > start.bat
That command should generate a file called start.bat. Right-click on that file and click edit in the menu that pops up. This will open a notepad window. Type in the following text to create the startup script:

Bringing The Minecraft Bedrock Server Online
Before you can start the server, you must make the main server file executable with the following command.
chmod +x bedrock_server
Then, we can start the server with the following command:
During the first start, the server will create a default world. The only problem remaining is when we close the SSH window, the Minecraft server will stop working.
To remedy this problem, we will be launching the Minecraft server with the screen application. Heres the command to proceed:
Once the server is functional, to go back without closing your Minecraft PE server, press the CTRL-A keys followed by the D key. You will be back in the command line, but your Minecraft PE server will continue to work.
To return to the screen where the Minecraft PE server display the information, simply perform the following command.
Download The Server Software
To get the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft working on your server, youll need to install Java Runtime Environment you can use our command line instructions below. This is what enables Minecraft to run on your server since the game is essentially a Java application. Java is also the programming language that allows the game to be played on multiple platforms.
Of course, youll also need the Minecraft Bedrock Edition server software itself.
Once you download the appropriate server software for your system, youll be able to access detailed user guides to use as you configure your server. Its important to note that the server software is free to download, but you will need to have an active Minecraft account and a copy of the game in order to run it from your server.
You can run the following command to install JRE server software:
apt-get update & & apt-get -y install wget screen openjdk-8-jdk-headless
Extract the downloaded Bedrock .zip file.
Upload the extracted folder to the admin users home directory.
You might find similar command lines in other tutorials online, but these snippets have been adjusted explicitly for your DreamHost server. Youll just need to replace your-admin-user with the username you set up in the previous step.
You should refer to your software documentation for further instructions if needed. Additionally, there are specific instructions for Linux users that may require slightly different commands.

Reconfigure / Update Scripts
The scripts can always be reconfigured and updated by downloading the latest SetupMinecraft.sh and running the installer again. It will update all of the scripts in the Minecraft directory and reinstall the startup service for you.
Running SetupMinecraft.sh again will also give you a chance to reconfigure options such as the memory dedicated to the server, daily reboots, starting the server on boot, etc.
This will not overwrite your world or any other data so it is safe to run!
